Read Our 5-Star Google Reviews "My only regret is not doing this sooner!"
I recently had a tummy tuck with Dr. Mesna in late December of 2020. I had been self-conscious about the hanging skin on my abdomen for years which was compounded by separation of my abdominal muscles from 2 pregnancies. Dr. Mesna exceeded my expectations!... I was able to move around independently from day one and the pain was minimal. Dr. Mesna is meticulous and a perfectionist, my scar is so thin and perfect and I know it will fade to nothing over time. My only regret is not doing this sooner!View On Google
I highly recommend Dr. Mesna! He and his staff are so caring and kind. He really listened to what I was concerned about and trying to accomplish with my body and gave me the results that I was hoping for! After my pregnancies and breast-feeding my 3 beautiful children- I wasn't feeling so confident about certain areas of body. Dr. Mesna was able to give me my confidence back! He really is talented and provides results.View On Google
Watch Dr. Mesna Discuss the Liposuction Procedure
Liposuction is a surgical procedure performed using small, strategically placed incisions in the targeted treatment area. Through these incisions, Dr. Mesna inserts a cannula, a long, thin, hollow instrument that gently suctions excess fat deposits out of the treatment area. Depending on your unique concerns, Dr. Mesna can use one of several methods to suction fat from the body at our Minneapolis practice.
During the tumescent liposuction procedure, Dr. Mesna will inject a local anesthetic solution made of lidocaine and epinephrine. The lidocaine acts as an anesthetic to numb the area and ensure your comfort, and the epinephrine is a vasoconstrictor that shrinks capillaries to drastically minimize bleeding.
Tumescent liposuction is highly beneficial for patients because of its ability to limit bleeding during and after surgery. Additionally, patients do not need to rely on significant amounts of general anesthesia or narcotics in order to remain comfortable during surgery.
Smartlipo™ is an advanced type of laser-assisted liposuction. Laser energy targets fat cells, breaking them apart for easier removal. This liposuction technique also causes tissue coagulation, which helps shrink tissues for more even contouring. The skin is tightened through the coagulation effect, lessening the effect of dimpling and sagging of the skin.
Smartlipo is minimally invasive and uses local anesthesia to numb specific treatment areas, which allows you to be awake throughout the procedure. The technique also employs smaller cannulas, meaning smaller incisions are made in the body.
This type of liposuction surgery uses ultrasound waves to break up fat cells for easier removal. It is mainly used to eliminate fat in areas that tend to be more difficult to treat, like the knees, calves, ankles, neck, and chin.
Dr. Mesna will apply ultrasonic waves to the fat cells in the targeted area to liquefy the fat, which enables it to be vacuumed out easily. Ultrasonic liposuction can be performed in combination with tumescent liposuction in order to achieve more precise results. Depending on your needs, the procedure can be performed with local, twilight, or general anesthesia.

It is important to recognize that this surgery is not intended to provide substantial weight loss, but rather to reduce fat deposits in a patient who is already healthy.
Patients with a healthy diet and exercise regimen are more likely to maintain long-term results after their procedure at our Minneapolis practice.
If you have diabetes, a heart condition, or another chronic disease, your primary care physician will need to determine whether this surgery is safe for you.
As with any surgery, it is important that you do not smoke at least two weeks prior to your surgery, as well as during your healing time. Smoking can weaken the immune system and prolong your recovery.
Finally, patients seeking liposuction should have realistic goals and expectations. Be sure to ask questions, voice concerns, and express your feelings about the procedure so that Dr. Mesna can be fully aware of your treatment goals.

How much weight will I lose with liposuction?
While liposuction is not considered a weight loss procedure, nor a substitute for a healthy diet and exercise, patients can expect to lose about five to eight pounds of fat during the procedure.
Is liposuction covered by insurance?
Most insurances do not cover liposuction or other surgeries for cosmetic purposes, but that doesn't mean you will need to pay the entire cost upfront. Our Minneapolis practice offers several flexible financing options which can help make the procedure much more affordable.
Does liposuction leave scars?
Any time an incision is made during surgery there is a possibility of scarring; however, the incisions made during lipo are relatively small and usually fade to the point where they're virtually unnoticeable. Additionally, Dr. Mesna tries to place incisions in areas that can be concealed by clothing to reduce the chance of visible scarring and provide aesthetically pleasing results.
