Blepharoplasty - Edina, Minneapolis

The eyelids are highly susceptible to the effects of aging and, unlike other parts of the body, cannot be maintained through diet or exercise. Unfortunately, for many women, this means that despite their best efforts, signs of aging are still conspicuous, which can, in turn, affect their confidence and self-esteem.

If your eyelids have begun to droop or sag, blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, is a potentially ideal solution. At our Edina, Minneapolis, practice, we can help you regain your confidence by correcting unwanted sagging and drooping of the eyelids.

Our lead plastic surgeon, Dr. Mesna, has the experience and qualifications necessary to provide quality care and superb results. Additionally, you should be able to return to work within just ten days of the procedure, and we offer flexible financing options. To arrange a consultation, please contact Mesna Plastic Surgery today.

Eyelid surgery, also known as blepharoplasty, is a surgical treatment that lifts the skin surrounding the eyes to create a more youthful look. Dr.  Mesna uses this minimally invasive outpatient treatment to create a natural, more rested look for his patients.

Types of Eyelid Surgery

There are two types of eyelid surgery procedures: upper eyelid surgery, and lower eyelid surgery. Both are performed at our Edina, Minneapolis practice for our patients' benefit.

Upper Eyelid Surgery - If the upper eyelids are sagging, they can not only impact your appearance and self-confidence, in severe cases, they can actually impair vision. As we age, the muscles weaken and the skin begins to lose its elasticity, which results in sagging. Upper eyelid surgery corrects this by eliminating excess skin, fat, and muscle tissue, and repositioning and tightening remaining tissue so that appears younger and healthier. To complete this process, a small incision is made along the upper eyelid (the area will first be anesthetized for your comfort). Once this incision has been made, Dr. Mesna can remove offending tissue, reposition the muscle, and pull the skin taut, at which point he will close the incision with fine stitches. There is little to no visible scarring, and the patient can leave the office the same day as treatment.

Lower Eyelid Surgery - Unsightly bags and excessive sagging of the lower eyelid can be addressed through blepharoplasty as well. To complete lower eyelid surgery, an incision will be made along the natural crease of the lower eyelid or inside of the lower eyelid. This incision provides access to the underlying fat and muscle tissue. Excess tissue will be removed and the muscle tissue will be repositioned. Once this step is complete, the skin will be pulled taut, as with upper eyelid surgery, and the incision will be closed. Fine stitches are used, and there is little to no visible scarring after healing is complete. Typically, the procedure takes no more than two hours, and you can leave our office the same day as treatment. If there is excess fat tissue but the skin is not sagging excessively, then a transconjunctival blepharoplasty procedure may be well-suited to the patient's needs. During this treatment, excess fat tissue is removed, but no skin is excised. This technique leaves zero visible scarring, as the fat can be removed through very small incisions.

After your procedure, Dr. Mesna will provide you with thorough aftercare instructions to facilitate a quick recovery.

Candidates for Blepharoplasty
