Enhance Your Contours with a Full Body Lift

Our skin loses natural elasticity as we age or after it has been stretched during pregnancy or weight gain. Even with consistent diet and exercise, you may experience loose, sagging skin and fat around different areas of the body. While these excess tissues do not typically pose a health risk, they can greatly affect your self-esteem. To help you achieve a smoother, trimmer figure, Dr. Gregory T. Mesna and his team can perform a full body lift at Mesna Plastic Surgery in Minneapolis, MN. Your full body lift will be personalized based on your unique needs and your cosmetic goals.

What is a Full Body Lift?

A full body lift is a personalized body contouring procedure designed to remove excess skin and fat and tighten the underlying weakened muscles in multiple areas of the body at the same time. If you have been left with excess skin after losing a significant amount of weight, a full body lift can help reveal your newly slimmed figure. Additionally, patients who experience sagging skin due to pregnancy or the natural aging process may also be good candidates for a full body lift. It is also important that you are able to maintain a stable body weight and a healthy diet and that you regularly exercise so that you can recover faster and achieve the best results possible. Additionally, patients should be healthy enough to undergo surgical procedures to be considered for a full body lift.

Planning Your Treatment

Rather than addressing one area of the body at a time, a full body lift can be performed to provide a comprehensive cosmetic enhancement of multiple areas at once. This approach can achieve dramatic results while minimizing cost, discomfort, and recovery times. Depending on your unique goals, Dr. Mesna can perform a combination of procedures to treat areas such as the arms, back, breastsmidsection, hips, buttocks, groin, and thighs. Additionally, liposuction and a fat transfer may also be recommended to achieve your desired results.

The Initial Consultation

You should request copies of all relevant medical records before coming to your initial consultation. By providing Dr. Mesna with the most thorough medical history information, he can more effectively plan your treatment. To better understand your treatment, you should bring a list of questions to ask Dr. Mesna regarding his experience and what to expect. Dr. Mesna will also work with you to decide if your desired treatments can be performed in one surgery or must be spread out over a series of procedures.

The Procedure

On the day of your surgery, Dr. Mesna will review your surgical plan and discuss any last-minute concerns or questions you may have. To begin your full body lift, we will administer general anesthesia to ensure your comfort. Liposuction, if necessary, will be performed first. Dr. Mesna will then make a series of incisions along the treatment area. Because he is highly trained and experienced, he can strategically place the incisions to minimize the appearance of scars as much as possible.

Through the incisions, Dr. Mesna will carefully remove excess skin and fat before tightening the surrounding tissue. Once he has achieved the desired results, the incisions will be closed, sutured, and bandaged. Dr. Mesna may also place drains around the surgical sites to prevent fluid retention and help speed your recovery.

A full body lift can dramatically enhance your figure by reducing fat and eliminating loose, sagging skin from multiple areas of the body at the same time.

Recovery

Most patients spend at least two days in the hospital immediately after surgery, but the duration of your stay will be determined by your body's natural ability to heal, the extent of your treatment, and other factors. You will most likely feel some pain and discomfort for a few days after surgery, but Dr. Mesna can prescribe medication to help you feel more comfortable. Once you have been discharged from the hospital, you will need to arrange for transportation home, as you should not drive under the influence of painkillers and you will not have a full range of motion.

It is normal to experience swelling and bruising around the surgical areas for a few weeks, but you may begin to shower carefully within three to five days after surgery. Always place new, clean, and dry bandages over the surgical sites after each shower to help prevent infection. It is also important to empty and clean your drains regularly. Dr. Mesna can typically remove these drains approximately one to two weeks after your procedure.

You will be required to wear compression garments for several weeks after surgery to aid in healing, and you must avoid strenuous activities such as exercise until cleared by Dr. Mesna. Our team will provide you with detailed postoperative instructions, and you will return to our practice for follow-up visits so that we can monitor your recovery. If your full body lift is being performed in stages, Dr. Mesna will also see you at this time to discuss the next phase of your treatment.

Full Body Lift Benefits

Receiving full body lift surgery from Dr. Mesna can result in a wide range of both cosmetic and medical benefits, such as:

  • Slimmer, more youthful appearance: Patients who undergo full body lifts usually appear younger and more fit than before. Your skin will be tightened around areas that have been lifted, and your muscle tone can be more visible to others.
  • Improved health: Patients with large amounts of sagging skin may find it hard to keep all areas of their bodies clean or may suffer from irritation and rashes. By eliminating unnecessary body mass, you may find that you have better overall personal hygiene and reduced levels of skin conditions.
  • Comprehensive results: A full body lift is designed to improve the appearance of multiple areas of your body at one time. This approach can save time, money, and eliminate the need for multiple surgeries. Full body lifts are usually associated with significant weight loss, because excess tissues can be removed from multiple areas of the body at once.

Choosing Your Surgeon

Full body lifts are considered a serious surgical procedure that requires diligent research and preparedness. Your surgeon will be by your side throughout your body lift treatments, so it is important that you feel comfortable about his experience, qualifications, and demeanor.  If you are considering a full body lift, you should develop a list of questions you want to ask your plastic surgeon so you can feel as confident as possible in your selection. Ask about your surgeon's certifications and licenses, how often he or she has performed full body lifts, and his or her techniques.

Dr. Mesna has been praised by his patients for the results he has provided through his expert treatment. He frequently receives referrals from other health professionals because of the work he has done in the past. Dr. Mesna will thoroughly answer all your questions, discuss your treatment goals, and familiarize you with the procedure before moving forward. You can trust in his patient-oriented care.
