Brazilian Butt Lift Recovery

The Brazilian butt lift recovery timeline varies from patient to patient, but complete recovery is typically achieved within two to six months. Dr. Gregory T. Mesna is a plastic surgeon in Minneapolis, MN, who has been performing this surgery for several years with excellent results. He will provide explicit instructions for your recovery, determining when it is safe to resume physical activity. With his help, you can achieve beautiful and long-lasting results following a Brazilian butt lift procedure.

Immediately After Surgery

You can expect moderate pain, swelling, and bruising directly following the surgery, but this is normal. Dr. Mesna can prescribe pain medication to help alleviate these symptoms, which should subside after a couple of weeks. Depending on your capacity to heal and Dr. Mesna's instructions, you should be able to walk comfortably one to three days after surgery. It is also normal during this time to see tumescent fluid drain from your liposuction incisions.

You will need to wear a compression garment around the areas where fat was harvested so that they can heal properly. The garment must be worn for at least eight weeks to ensure optimal healing and desired results. The garment is comfortable and helps manage postoperative pain.

Important Considerations

It is very important that you avoid sitting directly on your buttocks for at least three weeks after surgery. Following a fat graft, it is important to maintain proper circulation in these areas. Placing weight on the treatment area can decrease blood flow, which may affect healing. Dr. Mesna advises patients to sleep on their side or stomach.

You should avoid engaging in vigorous activity sports or exercise for at least one month. With Dr. Mesna's approval, you may begin low-impact exercises such as aerobic walking. While your specific recovery time may vary, you can expect to resume most non-strenuous activity two to three weeks after surgery. Be sure to follow Dr. Mesna's instructions very carefully in order to achieve the results you desire.

Regular exercise is key to maintaining your health and figure, but excessively strenuous activity could decrease the volume of the buttocks.

Maintaining Your Results

Dr. Mesna will provide you with detailed instructions throughout the recovery period, but there are certain things you can do to maintain your results in the long term. First and foremost, plan to achieve and maintain a healthy weight and lifestyle through moderate physical activity. Regular exercise is key to maintaining your health and figure, but excessively strenuous activity could decrease the volume of the buttocks.

In addition to eating a healthy diet and maintaining an exercise routine, you can prolong your results by making other healthy lifestyle choices such as abstaining from smoking.
