Looking your best means more than just dressing well, eating right, and exercising regularly. You also have to take into account the overall look of your skin. Sometimes the skin can become puffy or loose, leading to unsightly sagging in different parts of your face and body. Thankfully there are plenty of ways this can be addressed at our Edina plastic surgery center.

Caring for the Windows of the Soul

One place where this may matter the most is the eyes. The proverbial windows of the soul communicate a lot about who we are and what we’re feeling. When the upper eyelids or lower eyelids sag or get wrinkly, people can look much older or more haggard than they really are or feel.

About Cosmetic Eyelid Surgery

That’s where cosmetic eyelid surgery comes in. Cosmetic eyelid surgery is a facial plastic surgery procedure that removes excess skin tissue of the upper eyelid area or the lower eyelid area. Once this excess skin is removed, the remaining skin is tightened and the overall appearance of the eye area is enhanced. Dr. Gregory T. Mesna is a skilled plastic surgeon serving Minneapolis and St. Paul, so he’ll determine if you are right for this particular surgical approach.

The Upper Eyelid Surgery Procedure

Let’s look at upper eyelid surgery first. During upper eyelid surgery, an incision will be made in the existing fold of the eye. Through this incision, excess skin of the upper eyelid will be removed. What’s great is that this incision will be hidden naturally in the fold and barely visible once you heal. In some cases, people may get upper eyelid surgery in order to create that fold in the upper eyelid. Doing so can have subtle yet dramatic effects on the appearance.

The Lower Eyelid Surgery Procedure

Now let’s look at lower eyelid surgery. During this Edina eyelid surgery, an incision will be made just below the eyelashes of the lower eyelid. Through this incision, excess skin and even excess fat may be removed to improve the appearance of the eye area. As with upper eyelid surgery, the placement of the incision means that it will be barely visible once you heal.

Which option is right for me?

Either upper eyelid surgery or lower eyelid surgery may be right for you depending on your needs. Generally, you should be able to tell which one would better enhance your overall appearance. Dr. Mesna will help finalize your decision when you visit the office for a consultation.

Other Considerations to Keep in Mind

Some patients undergo multiple facial plastic surgery treatments in combination with a cosmetic eyelid surgery in order to achieve a comprehensive enhancement of their facial features. Doing so means a more glowing, youthful, and enhanced appearance than can be achieved through eyelid surgery alone. These matters and other makeover options can be discussed more during the consultation at the office.
