Reviews of Our Highly Recommended Practice
I highly recommend Dr. Mesna! He and his staff are so caring and kind. He really listened to what I was concerned about and trying to accomplish with my body and gave me the results that I was hoping for! After my pregnancies and breast-feeding my 3 beautiful children- I wasn't feeling so confident about certain areas of body. Dr. Mesna was able to give me my confidence back! He really is talented and provides results.
View On GoogleI recently had a tummy tuck with Dr. Mesna in late December of 2020. I had been self-conscious about the hanging skin on my abdomen for years which was compounded by separation of my abdominal muscles from 2 pregnancies. Dr. Mesna exceeded my expectations! Dr. Mesna is meticulous and a perfectionist, my scar is so thin and perfect and I know it will fade to nothing over time. My only regret is not doing this sooner!

Candidates for Blepharoplasty
Both men and women are candidates for blepharoplasty. The eyelid surgery patients we see are typically men and women in their 40s and up. By this point in an individual's life, the aging process has taken its toll on the skin, fat, and muscle tissue of the eyelids, and men and women begin to develop conspicuous and heavy under-eye bags, wrinkles, and sagging eyelids. If your upper eyelids have begun to sag to the point that they impair your vision, our team can provide a safe and effective solution and help you regain your sight and your confidence.
Blepharoplasty vs. Brow Lift
A brow lift, or forehead lift, is intended to lift drooping eyebrows and smooth lines between the brows and along the forehead. If these cosmetic issues affect you, a brow lift may be a better solution — or this treatment can be performed in combination with eyelid surgery. We can determine which approach is right for you during a consultation at our Minneapolis, MN, practice.
Types of Eyelid Surgery
There are two types of eyelid surgery procedures: upper eyelid surgery and lower eyelid surgery. Both techniques are offered at our Minneapolis practice:
Upper Eyelid Surgery
If the upper eyelids are sagging, they can impact your appearance and self-confidence. In severe cases, they can actually impair vision. As we age, the muscles weaken and the skin begins to lose its elasticity, which results in sagging of the eyelids that can actually obstruct vision.
Upper eyelid surgery corrects this by eliminating excess skin, fat, and muscle tissue. Dr. Mesna can then reposition and tighten the remaining tissue so that it appears younger and healthier.
To perform this surgery, a small incision is made along the upper eyelid (after anesthetizing the area for your comfort). Once the incision has been made, Dr. Mesna can remove extra tissue, reposition the muscle, and pull the skin taut, at which point he will close the incision with fine stitches. There is little to no visible scarring, and patients can leave the office the same day as treatment.
Lower Eyelid Surgery
Unsightly bags and excessive sagging of the lower eyelid can be addressed with lower eyelid surgery. To perform this surgery, an incision will be made along the natural crease of the lower eyelid or inside of the lower eyelid. This incision provides access to the underlying fat and muscle tissue. Excess tissue will be removed, and the muscle tissue will be repositioned. Once this step is complete, the skin will be pulled taut and the incision will be closed. Fine stitches are used, and there is little to no visible scarring after healing is complete. Typically, the procedure takes no more than two hours and you can leave our office the same day as treatment.
If there is excess fat tissue but the skin is not sagging excessively, a transconjunctival blepharoplasty procedure may be well-suited to the patient's needs. During this treatment, excess fat tissue is removed, but no skin is excised. This technique leaves zero visible scarring because the fat can be removed through very small incisions.
