Ultrasonic-assisted Liposuction Can Provide Smoother Contours

Areas such as the hips, thighs, and abdomen can be very difficult to successfully sculpt and shape, even after years of diet and exercise. To achieve a more contoured, slimmer physique, patients can benefit from one of our liposuction treatments. Dr. Gregory T. Mesna offers various body contouring procedures, including innovative ultrasonic-assisted liposuction (UAL) at his Minneapolis, MN, practice. This innovative technique allows for more precise contouring with less blood loss during the procedure, and quicker recovery. To learn more about this treatment, and how it can help you achieve the physique that you desire, please contact us today.

What is UAL?

UAL is a state-of-the-art technology that produces sound waves to break apart deposits of fatty cells, causing them to liquefy. By virtually melting the fat deposits, we can use a long suctioning probe called a cannula to remove the liquefied fat. UAL has been particularly beneficial in removing large volumes of fat in areas of the central body such as the hips, back, and more difficult to treat areas like the chin, neck, and cheeks. When combined with treatments aimed to eliminate saggy skin, such as a tummy tuck or body lift procedure, patients can achieve dramatic results.

The Procedure

We will begin your UAL treatment by injecting a tumescent fluid, which combines a mixture of anesthetic, salt-water solution, and epinephrine. The fluid helps to facilitate fat removal, and decrease post-operative swelling, bleeding, and bruising. We will then insert a small probe just beneath the surface of your skin into the fatty tissue. The probe, which is attached to an ultrasound energy source, emits vibrations through sound waves. This innovative technology causes the fatty tissue to break apart and liquefy. A suctioning cannula will then be used to gently remove the fatty cells

Dr. Mesna will guide you through your recovery, and provide you with tips to help you recover as quickly as possible.

Recovery

Following a UAL procedure, patients can expect the recovery time to vary between a few days and a couple weeks. You may experience some minor fluid drainage, swelling, and bruising surrounding the treatment area. To help control swelling, a compression garment may be recommended. Healing is a gradual process, but Dr. Mesna will guide you through your recovery and provide you with information on activities that should be avoided, proper care, and tips to help you recover as quickly as possible. Once the swelling has subsided, you will see a noticeable difference in the shape and contours of your body.

Candidates

UAL has been used to treat patients with fatty tissue throughout their upper midsection, back, thighs, legs, and other areas of the body. However, the procedure is not recommended for patients who are extremely overweight. Liposuction is not a weight loss treatment. If you are currently carrying a moderate amount of body fat, you may be a good candidate for UAL treatment. Candidates must also be in good health, and have realistic expectations for the surgery and results.
