Sculptra is a revolutionary new injectable filler that can help restore lost collagen. As we age, the body’s ability to rebuild collagen diminishes. This directly contributes to a loss of volume in the face. Sculptra is a new injectable filler that can help restore lost collagen.

What Is Sculptra?

It is a cosmetic filler that inserted underneath the skin via injection. This cosmetic filler was approved by the American Food and Drug Administration in 2004 and was initially used to treat lipoatrophy in patients with HIV.

Sculptra contains a biocompatible substance that triggers the production of collagen. This substance is called poly-l-lactic acid, or PLLA. The injection is administered to treat folds, facial wrinkles, deep creases, and lines.

Where Is Sculptra Administered?

Sculptra fillers are injected in the office of Dr. Mesna. There is no pretesting necessary in order to receive Sculptra injections.

How Effective Is Sculptra?

Improvements can be seen with a single treatment. However, it will take a couple of weeks for the entire area to regain a fuller and more youthful appearance. On average, a treatment regimen will involve three Sculptra injections over a period of up to four months, and the results of this treatment will last for up to two years.

How Sculptra Works

Unlike other injectables, Sculptra is not considered a true dermal filler. Instead, it is classified as a collagen stimulator. This is because rather than creating immediate volume using a filler material, it encourages the body to create gradual volume through increased collagen production.

Your plastic surgeon or trained provider will inject Sculptra under the skin in the targeted area. The PLLA content will stimulate collagen production. This will gradually help your body restore the collagen in the skin, giving you a younger appearance and smoothing away wrinkles.

The number of treatments required will depend on the individual. Some people require more than others, and it also depends on the area being treated. This will be determined during your Sculptra consultation.

What to Expect During the Treatment

At your initial consultation with Dr. Mesna, you will be asked to provide your entire medical history, which also includes any prior medical conditions, surgeries, and allergies.

On your scheduled treatment day, Dr. Mesna will mark the injection areas on the skin. Then he will apply a topical anesthetic to numb the region, giving you relief from any possible discomfort. Using several small injections, Dr. Mesna will insert Sculptra under your skin.

What Can You Expect After Sculptra?

After the treatment, Dr. Mesna will provide any applicable instructions for aftercare. Patients can resume normal activities after each treatment. Some minor redness, swelling, or bruising may occur at the injection sites; however, this will diminish quickly.
