Brow Lift Minneapolis

The forehead is often an area where the first signs of aging appear. Vertical wrinkles, frown lines, and sagging eyebrows can add years to your appearance, and can make you look sad, tired, or angry, even when you're not. A brow lift from Minneapolis cosmetic surgeon Dr. Gregory Mesna is one of the most effective and dramatic ways to reverse the signs of aging. By removing excess skin and tightening weakened or sagging muscles in the brow area, Dr. Mesna can help you look years younger. Contact us  today to schedule your personal consultation.

Personalized Treatment for Enhanced Results

Smiling middle-aged woman in white blazerThe brow lift is a highly personalized procedure, so a thorough consultation and evaluation are essential for the best results. During your appointment, you will discuss your health history, cosmetic goals, and candidacy for the procedure. Dr. Mesna performs most brow lifts on patients over the age of 35. However, this procedure can be an ideal solution for younger patients who have a naturally low or drooping forehead. Brow lifts work best for patients who still have some natural elasticity and resilience to their skin.

Dr. Mesna will also thoroughly examine your muscle structure and skin elasticity to best plan your surgery. Two types of brow lifts can be used:

  • Traditional brow lifts – Using this technique, Dr. Mesna will create several longer incisions behind the hairline,  which will allow access to the underlying muscles.
  • Endoscopic brow lifts – This innovative surgical technique involves a series of tiny incisions around the hairline. Dr. Mesna will insert an endoscope, or surgical video camera, inside the incisions to get a more detailed view of the muscles while he works. This type of procedure can often minimize scarring and result in a shorter recovery time.

Both types of brow lifts are proven effective and the procedure you choose will depend largely on your skin type and desired results. In either case, Dr. Mesna will carefully create the incisions so that they are well-concealed and result in negligible scarring. With both traditional and endoscopic brow lifts, Dr. Mesna will tighten weakened, sagging muscles and remove excess muscle and skin. He may also attach the underlying muscles to a higher position on the bone. The procedure is performed under general or local anesthesia and typically takes about two hours.

After the Procedure: Results and Recovery

Recovery time after a brow lift varies, but patients can typically return to work in about ten days. Dr. Mesna will provide you with specific instructions regarding exercise and more strenuous physical activity. Following your procedure, you will likely experience some swelling, bruising, and minor discomfort. Using ice packs and keeping your head elevated can help to control these symptoms. You should also avoid smoking and prolonged sun exposure.

It can take several months for swelling to completely dissipate and the full results of your surgery to become apparent. When recovery is complete, you can benefit from:

  • Improved frown lines and creases between the eyes
  • Reduced vertical wrinkles
  • A higher forehead
  • Lifted, more alert eyebrows
  • A younger, more relaxed appearance
  • Increased self-confidence

A brow lift is frequently combined with additional cosmetic procedures for a more comprehensive makeover. Procedures most commonly performed in conjunction with a brow lift include blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, face lift, and laser skin resurfacing.
