Upper Blepharoplasty Minneapolis
As with everything else on our bodies, eyelids tend to droop over time.
Although a healthy lifestyle can help you look your best, youthful eyelids cannot be maintained through diet or exercise. For this and other reasons, upper eyelid surgery has become a very popular solution. At Mesna Plastic Surgery in Minneapolis, MN, our surgeon, Dr. Gregory Mesna, has the experience and qualifications necessary to provide quality care and superb results. He has helped numerous patients significantly boost their confidence by restoring their eyelids’ youthful appearance, eliminating the sagging that naturally develops with age. Blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, is one of the most effective facial procedures that Mesna Plastic Surgery offers, often creating dramatic results that our patients love.
Candidates for Upper Eyelid Surgery
Patients who are interested in any surgical or non-surgical procedure will first consult with the doctor to discuss their individual concerns. Generally speaking, good candidates for upper eyelid surgery include:
- Healthy individuals who do not have a life-threatening illness or medical condition that can impair healing
- Patients possessing a positive outlook, with specific goals in mind for eyelid surgery
- Patients who have not been diagnosed with serious eye conditions
- Patient with excess fatty deposits that cause puffiness in the upper eyelids
- Patients with drooping eyelids that impair their vision
Dr. Mesna will tailor your procedure to meet your specific goals. A number of patients combine upper eyelid surgery with lower eyelid surgery. It is vital to share your expectations with the doctor during your consultation.
Upper Eyelid Surgery May Improve More than Just Your Appearance
In severe cases of drooping eyelids, some patients actually experience impaired vision. When the doctor corrects this condition with the blepharoplasty procedure, the excess tissue is eliminated, while the remaining tissue is repositioned and tightened. The outcome of upper eyelid surgery can be a younger and healthier appearance, and for some patients, a significant improvement in vision as well.
Procedure and Recovery
Another reason why upper eyelid surgery is such a popular treatment is that it is minimally invasive. The procedure is performed in our office, and the patient can leave the same day. The recovery time is no more than two weeks, and there is little to no visible scarring.
The outcome of upper eyelid surgery can be a younger and healthier appearance, and for some patients, a significant improvement in vision as well.
First, Dr. Mesna will administer appropriate anesthesia for your comfort Then he will make a small incision along the upper eyelid. Once this incision has been made, the doctor can remove or reposition excess fat, tighten the muscles, and remove excess skin. When this is complete, he will close the incision with fine stitches. After the procedure, someone will need to drive you home to rest and recover. You will be given a topical medication to assist in proper healing and reduce the chance of infection.
Within two weeks, any bruising or swelling should subside. Cold compresses, ointment, and occasionally oral medication can help control any pain or discomfort you experience immediately following the procedure.
